The Baku International Sea Trade Port plays an important role in the One Belt One Road Initiative, Santiago Garcia Mila, president of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), told Trend May 9 on the sidelines of IAPH Baku 2018 World Ports Conference.

The port business has changed significantly over the past 20 years, and it will continue to change in the future, he said.

The Baku International Sea Trade Port is an example of these changes, it is a transport and logistics hub, and it plays a special role in the One Belt One Road Initiative, he noted, adding that the project is very interesting and balanced and it has good prospects.

The Baku International Sea Trade Port, which will become the biggest port in the Caspian Sea, is an important part of Azerbaijan’s transport infrastructure.

The first phase of the port’s construction will be completed in May 2018, after which the annual capacity of the port will be 15 million tons of cargo. As a result of the second stage, the capacity of the port will be increased to 25 million tons of cargo and 500,000 containers per year, and up to one million containers per year at the subsequent stage.
