Kazakhstan delivers diplomatic note to Turkmen foreign ministry

The Kazakh Foreign Ministry has sent a diplomatic note to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry in connection with seven detained Kazakh citizens, spokesman for the Kazakh Foreign Ministry Altai Abibullayev said in Astana today.

The Kazakh Foreign Ministry has sent a diplomatic note to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry in connection with seven detained Kazakh citizens, spokesman for the Kazakh Foreign Ministry Altai Abibullayev said in Astana today.

"We held a meeting with Turkmen Deputy Foreign Minister Berdiniyaz Myatiev and Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov in connection with the detention of seven Kazakh citizens," Abibullayev said.

He said that the Kazakh Foreign Ministry has also sent a corresponding note to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry with a request to organize a meeting with Kazakh citizens.

"This issue is under constant control of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry and we hope for its rapid settlement in the spirit of his friendship and partnership between our two countries," he said.

The Turkmen Border Service members detained seven Kazakh citizens for illegal crossing of the Turkmen state border on Oct. 19.

Seven Kazakh citizens were detained by border guards of "Garabogaz" frontier post of the Turkmen State Border Service for illegal crossing the border and entering into the Turkmen territory on Oct. 19, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

According to the report, the employees of interior bodies and migration service of Kazakhstan were among the detained people. Cold steel, firearms and ammunition were found and seized from the detainees.

Turkmen Foreign Ministry sent an official note immediately to inform Kazakh Embassy in Ashgabat about the fact in accordance with the Consular Agreement between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, the report says.
