Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 14 / Trend F.Milad/
Iran's agricultural output will reach 118 million tons by the end of the current calendar year (March 20, 2012), the deputy agriculture minister predicted.
The agricultural output includes animal, farm, fishery and garden products, Mohammad-Ali Nikbakht added, the IRNA news agency reported.
The volume of Iran's agricultural products stood at 108 million tons in the past Iranian year, the official noted.
The Iranian parliament (Majlis) approved a bill last year to ban imports of non-essential agricultural crops. According to the law, the importation of 49 agricultural products was restricted.
Agriculture minister Sadeq Khalilian has predicted that Iran's self-efficiency in agro-food sector would reach 95 percent this year, which will be a great success for the country.
The minister remarked that Iran exported more than 5.1 billion dollars worth of processed and non-processed crops in last year.
