The Azerbaijani company SOCAR-AQS increased productivity of wells of the field West Absheron in the Caspian Sea by more than four times by applying the latest technologies when drilling and completing wells, head of the drilling engineering department of the company Elshan Ismayilov said in an interview with Trend.

He said that the company drills only horizontal wells on the field West Absheron.

"At the moment, four wells have been drilled here, mastered and delivered to the customer, the drilling of the fifth one is underway," Ismayilov said. "Technologies used during their drilling are applied for the first time in Azerbaijan. One of the main problems on this field is the high level of sand ingress that historically slowed the operation on the West Absheron."

"So here we used special filters, and so the problem of sand ingress in wells was completely solved," Ismayilov said. "Through the use of new technologies, the field's productivity has grown more than four times as a whole."

The head of the department said that the four wells drilled by the company have high performance.

"It is planned to drill ten wells here in total," Ismayilov said. "Then, new projects are further expected there, and perhaps we will continue to work on this field."

He said that the drilling of horizontal wells requires a specific approach.

"It is necessary to constantly monitor all the processes that occur during the drilling, and respond quickly in case of difficulties arise," Ismayilov said. "But no problems have been encountered for now."

SOCAR-AQS was established in 2007 by SOCAR and Absheron Drilling as a joint venture, providing integrated services for drilling and well servicing.
