Iranian Air Force experts have successfully overhauled US-made fighter jets, said Brigadier General Massoud Rouzkhosh, commander of the Shahid Babaei Air Base in central Isfahan city.
Among those aircraft, an F-14 fighter jet was overhauled after being grounded for 14 years, Rouzkhosh said, the official IRIB news agency reported Nov. 5.
Also, an F-7 fighter jet, as well as a Pilatus PC-7 training aircraft, were overhauled at Shahid Babaei base, he added.
The two aircraft were grounded for over seven years, Rouzkhosh noted.
Rouzkhosh further said that work on the three planes took 80,000 man-hour.
Iranian media outlets reported that in recent years, Tehran made great strides in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.
In September 2014, Iranian media outlets reported that Islamic Republic experts successfully overhauled US-made F-4 and F-14 fighter jets.
Last year, Iranian Air Force experts reportedly overhauled several Sukhoi Su-24 fighter jets for the first time.
