An Iranian cargo plane was set on fire in the Syrian capital of Damascus, where clashes are underway between the government forces and armed opposition, Al Arabiya TV channel reported on Thursday.

According to the TV channel, the Iranian plane carried weapons to Syria.

Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for about two years. According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 70,000 with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
