U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili had a telephone conversation last night, Georgian Prime Minister's office told Trend on Saturday.
According to the information, U.S. Secretary of State expressed his condolences over the death of Georgian servicemen in Afghanistan's terrorist attack.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Georgian side for the country's contribution in the fight against international terrorism, while participating in a NATO operation in Afghanistan. Kerry stressed that Georgia has the most numerous contingent in Afghanistan among the countries - non NATO members.
Kerry expressed hope during a telephone conversation that Georgia will continue trying to join NATO and will become a NATO member.
Ivanishvili thanked Secretary of State for support in Georgia's difficult moments.
Kerry hopes that he will be able to personally discuss the prospects of future relations between the U.S. and Georgia and the prospects of partnership intensification with Ivanishvili soon.
Around seven Georgian servicemen were killed and nine were wounded as a result of the terrorist attacks on the Georgian military base in Afghanistan's Helmand province on June 6. The life of the injured is out of danger.
