Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 19 / Trend H. Valiyev /

The Azerbaijani Internet community has submitted proposals to reduce the cost of the Internet to the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry, Azerbaijani Internet community Chairman Galib Gurbanov told Trend on Tuesday.

"A positive decision on these proposals could have a positive impact on the further development of broadband Internet in Azerbaijan," Gurbanov added.

The matter rests not only in tariff reduction for the rent of international channels, but the availability of communication services for the Internet providers.

"In particular, it is proposed to reduce the cost of laying fibre -optic communication lines, the cost of connection and the monthly fee for the use of optical ports," he added.

"Unfortunately, the high cost of all these services does not allow for the development of fibre infrastructure."

According to the expert, ADSL dominating the market today is obsolete. It is necessary to focus on the expansion of optical connections.

Gurbanov said earlier that 2013 will be marked by a significant reduction in Internet tariffs as indicated in the plan in the sphere of information and communication technologies for 2013, declared as the year of ICT in Azerbaijan.

There is a point in an action plan for 2013 for envisaging the reduction of the rental value of the channels for Internet service providers and telecommunications operators. This will inevitably affect the rates of Internet services rendered to end- users.
