Kyrgyzstan's imports of cabbage surge

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 4. Kyrgyzstan imported 2,557 tons of cabbage from January through February 2024, which is twice as much as in the corresponding months of 2023 (1,230 tons), Trend reports.

According to Kyrgyzstan's State Statistical Committee, the imports totaled $643,477, doubling the figures for January-February 2023 to $321,410.

Uzbekistan supplied the majority of the cabbage (2,476 tons), a 2.1-fold increase over the same period in 2023 (1,132 tons). The value of the imports totaled $599,318, increasing by 2.1 times year-on-year ($272,616 in January–February 2023).

Additionally, 62 tons were purchased from China, 10 tons from Kazakhstan, and 7.9 tons from Iran.

Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover reached $2.255 billion in the first two months of 2024, up 28.3 percent over the same time in 2023 ($1.758 billion).

Exports totaled $307.5 million, increasing by 18.4 percent compared to January–February 2023 ($259.726 million). Imports totaled $1.947 billion, up 30 percent from $1.498 billion in the corresponding months of 2023.
