BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 3. Azerbaijan's payment card turnover through ATMs and POS terminals increased by 2.55 billion manat ($1.5 billion), or 36.36 percent, from 7 billion manat ($4.1 billion) to 9.55 billion manat ($5.6 billion) as of the end of March 2024, Trend reports.
According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), there were
135.88 million payment card transactions (up 57.67 percent from the
previous year), with 5.37 million transactions worth 283 million
manat ($166.47 million) conducted abroad.
Debit card transactions (both inside and outside the country)
totaled 124.54 million for 8.9 billion manat ($5.2 billion), with
14.05 million transactions worth 3.3 billion manat ($1.94 billion)
made through ATMs within the country and 37.7 million transactions
worth 736 million manat ($432.9 million) made through POS terminals
within the country.
Bank clients used credit cards to conduct 11.337 million
transactions worth 645 million manat, or $379.4 million (both
within and outside the nation).
At the same time, 499,000 transactions amounting to 112 million manat ($65.8 million) were made through ATMs inside the country, and 5.33 billion transactions amounting to 172 million manat ($101.2 million) were made through POS terminals.
To note, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 3.175 million, or 22.29 percent, as of April 1, 2024, compared to the same period last year and reached 17.421 million against 14.246 million a year before.
