ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, May 4. The total sum of deposits garnered by banks in Turkmenistan in the domestic currency reached 13.4 billion Turkmen manat ($3.8 billion) in January this year, Trend reports.
Data from the Central Bank of Turkmenistan show that out of the total volume of attracted deposits, bank deposits of legal entities in the first month of this year amounted to 11.3 billion Turkmen manat ($3.2 billion).
Furthermore, in January 2024, individual deposits in banks in Turkmenistan reached a total of 2 billion Turkmen manat ($570.8 billion), which remained almost the same compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Meanwhile, in 2023, banks in Turkmenistan placed deposits in the national currency worth 245 billion Turkmen manats ($69.9 billion), with an average interest rate of 0.59 percent.
As of May 3, 2024, the Turkmen manat's official exchange rate against the US dollar stands at 3.5 manats per USD, according to data from the Central Bank of Turkmenistan.
