Guaranteed wheat purchases from local farmers in Iran revealed

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 4. More than 1.25 million tons of guaranteed wheat were purchased from farmers in Iran from April 26 through May 3, the official representative of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture, Sohrab Sohrabi said, Trend reports.

According to him, the process of purchasing guaranteed wheat started in Iran's provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormuzgan, and Kerman and is currently underway in Khuzestan, Ilam, and Pars provinces.

Sohrabi noted that 1,150 procurement centers have been established in the country to purchase guaranteed wheat from farmers. Currently, 21,000 combines are being used in the country in connection with wheat harvesting.

The official added that 6 million hectares of wheat are to be harvested this year. Around 2 million hectares of this area are conventional, and 4 million hectares are agricultural land.

Meanwhile, for the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), 1 kg of wheat in Iran is purchased under the guarantee of the State Trading Company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).

To note, the State Trading Company of Iran purchased a total of 7.2 million tons of wheat last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024).
