BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. We would welcome the opportunity to have some of US companies to share their expertise, their tools with the government of Azerbaijan and with companies here to help them decarbonize, US Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and Director General of the US and Foreign Commercial Service Arun Venkataraman, who is on a visit to Baku, told Trend during a press conference.
"Being in energy transition does not simply mean growing renewable energy sources, but it also means deploying clean technologies for decarbonization. Because we’re still in that transition. Decarbonization applies in multiple respects. It applies in the context of hydrocarbons themselves. In the actual process of oil exploration and development production you need decarbonization tools to make those processes cleaner. It also applies in the context of non-energy-related sectors. You have the industries like shipping, steel production. These are the energy-intensive sectors. We need to work on decarbonization to ensure that as they continue to produce, they do so in a cleaner way. This is where the innovation of the private sector is critical," he said.
