Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 February / Тrend corr. S. Agayeva / The 3rd summit of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM will take place in Tbilisi in June. Preparation for the summit will be discussed by the GUAM National Coordinators from Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova at their meeting in Kiev on 12 February, the GUAM Secretariat reported in a telephone conversation from Kiev on 5 February.
Before the meeting of the National Coordinators, experts will assemble in Kiev to develop the agenda for the National Coordinators Union's meeting.
The meeting of the National Coordinators Union is expected to discuss institutional development and organizational activities of GUAM. Also expected to be considered at the meeting is the International and regional security and stability, interaction among the GUAM members within the framework of international organizations, primarily the UN and OSCE, as well as development of cooperation between GUAM and other international organizations and countries.
The four post-Soviet republics Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, established this format in 1997 during the summit of the head of state of the European Union member-countries in Strasbourg. In 1999 Uzbekistan joined the organization, but left after four years. In 2006 the first summit of the organization in Kiev made a decision to declare GUAM an international organization and rename 'Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM'.
