Volunteers Unify to Supervise Presidential Elections in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 4 April / Trend corr J. Babayeva/ The Election Monitoring Centre (EMC) has engaged volunteers to carry out long-term and short-term supervision, improvement of activities and awareness of the voters to enable the free, democratic and equitable presidential elections in Azerbaijan, the EMC Program Director Bashir Suleymanli said to Trend on 4 April.

Azerbaijan will hold its presidential elections in October.

In order to join the program the public must fill out an application form. Preference will be given to students and youth organizations.

According to Suleymanli, the volunteers' activities will cover the country's cities and the regions in which the regional offices of the EMC are located.

"After being registered at the EMC election commissions, the supervisors will act in accordance with the EMC instructions," Suleymanli said.

EMC, an NGO, was established in 2001. Since its establishment EMC has monitored the referendum, presidential elections, parliamentary and municipal elections in Azerbaijan. The Centre developed the report on the results of the elections and submitted it to the domestic and international public.
