BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 8. IRENA’s aim is to strengthen collaboration with Turkmenistan and explore new opportunities for accelerating renewable energy uptake in the country, a source in the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) told Trend.

According to the source, at the end of last year, the international community gathered in Dubai for the UN Climate Change Conference COP28, one of the key outcomes of which was the establishment of a global goal to triple the use of renewable energy sources by 2030 in accordance with IRENA’s World Energy Transitions Outlook.

"To maintain the global climate on a 1.5°C safe trajectory, IRENA has been advocating continuously for a threefold increase in installed renewable energy capacity to over 11,000 GW by 2030. Especially since Azerbaijan is hosting COP29, this aim is enormous and calls for all hands on deck, including encouraging Turkmenistan and other Central Asian nations to take ambitious climate action," the source stated.

The agency's official continued by saying that IRENA offers a forum for exchanging local knowledge on how to progress the energy transition in the direction of the climate goals set forth in the Paris Agreement through its global membership.

"One of our key areas of focus will be on mobilizing renewable financing at scale and de-risking investments in Central Asia," the source concluded.

Meanwhile, IRENA is the leading global intergovernmental agency for energy transformation, supporting countries in their energy transitions and providing cutting-edge data and analyses on technology, innovation, policy, finance, and investment.

IRENA drives the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy, including bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar, and wind energy, in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, and energy security for economic and social resilience, prosperity, and a climate-proof future.
