Afghanistan, Kabul, Jan. 22 / Trend , A. Hakimi /
Afghanistan's Independent Election Commission (IEC) said presidential elections cannot be held in the spring based on the Constitution.
The head of the Independent Election Commission said preparing for the elections will take additional time.
Some experts say delaying the presidential elections is against the Constitution.
The Constitution says the Afghan presidential elections must be held in the spring.
The IEC predicted a postponement earlier, but has now confirmed the delay.
The commission says the cold weather, road blocks, poor financing and security concerns are the main reasons for the delay.
At a press conference, the head of the IEC said even if these problems are resolved, it is too late to hold the elections on schedule.
He added that the government has no control over certain districts in the country such as Musa Qala, Baghran and Sangin.
Residents of two districts in Ghazni and Maidan Wardad could not register their names for the elections due to security reasons, he said.
In the meantime, political experts say the delay is actually due to political issues.
