Georgia's extra-parliamentary opposition
believes that President Mikheil Saakashvili is "inadequate" and there is no other
way but to oust him from the post.
"Topical issues that exist in society once again went unanswered. The public is
well aware that Saakashvili's promises will again be empty words," said Georgian
Republican Party leader David Zurabishvili.
"The only progress that we saw in Saakashvili's statement is that this time he
avoided using negative epithets against the opposition and thanked George
Targamadze instead," he said.
Yesterday it was last time that Georgian President made his annual report to
the Parliament, Republican Party Chairman David Usurpashvili said. "His yesterday's
statement was a good performance in which all had a role," said Usupashvili, adding
that after the speech and debates Saakashvili praised all "perfectly well",
including the opposition.
"It was a PR campaign having nothing to do with the report. With regard to the
promises, no one believes in them. That was Saakashvili's last report, because
he will relinquish his presidential powers in 2009," he said.
Conservative Party leader Kakha Kukava said Georgian President's speech in the
Parliament was "inadequate". Saakashvili did not touch upon a single important
issue, he said.
