Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 22 / Trend M.Aliyev /
Azerbaijan is a democratic state, and the recent events in the Arab world will not affect the situation in the country, ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Deputy Executive Secretary, MP Mubariz Gurbanli said on Tuesday.
"We much differ from Arab countries, ranging from models of economic development of Azerbaijan to the mentality. Forces nominating certain theses in connection with these events, and commenting on the possibility of the recurrence of similar disturbances in Azerbaijan are not based on facts, not on logic," Gurbanli said.
He said the fight against corruption in Azerbaijan is not connected with the situation in the Arab world, and that anti-corruption activities in the country will be carried out always.
"At a time when the Azerbaijani president touched upon the issue at the cabinet meeting, all was calm in Arab countries," Gurbanli said.
Under pressure of the revolutionary unrest in Tunisia and Egypt, the two presidents were forced to give up their powers. The wave of protests spread to many other Arab countries.
