Azerbaijani Refugee Society supports Ilham Aliyev in upcoming presidential election
Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 6 / Trend M. Aliyev /
The Azerbaijani Refugee Society has adopted a statement of support for Ilham Aliyev's candidacy in the presidential elections to be held on October 9.
Azerbaijan is currently experiencing one of the crucial stages in its history and destiny. The occupation war of Armenia against Azerbaijan which began in 1988 bringing terrible disaster to the people and the whole region is still on-going, according to the statement.
'One fifth of our territories are under occupation, one fifth of the population are refugees and IDPs. Nevertheless, the people of Azerbaijan, displaying great will, have restored its historic independence and achieved great success in the state and military development, as well as in the economic and social and cultural development. There is no doubt all these achievements are the result of the political course pursued by the great leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev over the past 10 years', the document noted.
We need to faithfully follow this route for the happy future of Azerbaijan, the statement said.
'There are certain forces that want to steer Azerbaijan away from this path, so that the country has to pass it anew repeatedly. Unfortunately, sometimes these forces put their personal interests as well as the interests of their group and party above the national and state interests, not understanding the dangers the state and statehood of Azerbaijan may face through their fault. They cannot understand the fact that every wrong move made by them may turn into a tragedy with an unpredictable ending for Azerbaijan which is in a state of war and within the interests of the world's power centres', the statement said.
'For this reason, we, the Azerbaijani Refugee Society, considering the present and future of the Azerbaijani statehood, taking into consideration the existence of a continuous development in all spheres of public life, believing that this development will result in the elimination of existing problems, placing great hopes for the liberation of occupied territories and return of those people expelled by Armenia to their historic lands, express our support for the candidate of the New Azerbaijan Party, Ilham Aliyev in the next presidential election and will mobilise all our forces for his victory in the elections', the statement said.
