Azerbaijan Consul General: Terrorism, Drug Enforcement and National Security to Be Discussed in St. Petersburg

Gudsi Osmanov, the Consul General of Azerbaijan in St.Petersburg, Russia, informed Trend that the 27th Plenary Meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of CIS was held at the Tavriya Palace of St.Petersburg on 16 November 2006 at the initiative of the PA CIS.

He noted that on 17 November the Palace will host a scientific research conference titled Joint Activities of CIS member-states in the protection of international security at present. The Azerbaijan delegation headed by Speaker Ogtay Asadov, is expected to attend the forum. The delegation will also include the Deputy Interior Minister, Vilayat Eyvazov, the Chief of the Drug Enforcement Department of the Interior Ministry, Azi Aslanov, the Acting Deputy Security Minister, Fuad Shafiyev and the Head of Department at the Prosecutor General's Office, Chingiz Mammadov.

According to Osmanov, the event will focus on important issues, including terrorism in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), drug enforcement and national security. In accordance with the program, the participants at the event will participate in discussions over the strengthening of its struggle with terrorism and drug trafficking in CIS, application of new laws in national legislations on national security, protection of borders and water areas, protection of human rights and an improvement of legislations. Members of the Azerbaijani delegation are scheduled to present speeches, the Consul General informed.
