Opposition Parties of GUAM Countries to Hold Solidarity Meetings

Alizadeh / A number of opposition parties of GUAM countries (Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM - Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova) will hold solidarity monitoring exercises on 22 September, the Chairman of the 'Way of Azerbaijan' political movement and the Chairman of the Coordinating Council of 'For People's Will - GUAM' organization, Ilgar Gasymov, reported.
Gasymov noted that Organizing Committees for Simultaneous Mass Protest Actions have been established in all GUAM countries. According to Gasymov, the solidarity meetings will be held in the centres of Georgian, Ukrainian, Moldovan, and Azerbaijani capitals.
"The purpose of the meetings is solidarity, to prove that there are political forces ready to protect the rights of the citizens at any moment," he noted.
The Coordinating Council of opposition parties and movements of GUAM countries was established in Kiev on 7 December 2006. The Council includes the Ukrainian Socialistic Prosperity Party, the Georgian Labour Party, and Moldovan 'Party-Motherland'.
The main purpose of the organization is to bring together GUAM countries and their nations, the development of free civil society in GUAM countries, establishment of inter-state cooperation in economics, culture, and politics, settlement of the problems in protection of human rights and freedoms, and so on. The organization was established as a consulting body. The Council does not interfere with intra-party affairs, but only gives attention to development of inter-party relations.
