Individuals accused of smuggling drug from Iran to Azerbaijan have been sentenced.

The Serious Crimes Court read out verdict for Rakhshan Bagirov, Ilyas Mammadov, Ramin Agabalayev, Rahid Agabalayev, Shamama Bagirova and Anar Zekiyev.

According to the Court's verdict, Rakhshan Bagirov was sentenced to 12-year imprisonment, Ilyas Mammadov and Ramin Agabalayev to 10 year-imprisonment, Rahid Agabalayev to 12.5 years imprison, Shamama Bagirova to 5.5 years imprisonment, Anar Zekiyev to 10 years in prison.  

The individuals are charged under Article 206.3.2 (smuggling), 234.4.1, 234.4.2, 234.4.3 (Illegal purchase or storage without a purpose of selling of narcotics or psychotropic substances in a quantity (amount) exceeding necessary for personal consumption, illegal purchase or storage with a view of selling, manufacturing, processing, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics or psychotropic substances, and manufacturing, purchase, storage, transfer, transportation or selling drug with a view of illegal manufacturing and processing of narcotics or psychotropic substances) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code.

They were arrested during smuggling drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan in summer of 2009.
