PARIS, France, August 6. Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Sanan Suleymanov has kicked off the Summer Olympics in Paris with a bang, coming out on top and punching his ticket to the quarterfinals of the competition, Trend reports.

In the 1/8 finals, he squared up against Aik Mnatsakanyan of Bulgaria, who was fighting in the 77 kg weight class.

The match ended with the Azerbaijani athlete coming out on top with a score of 2:0.

Azerbaijani athletes who have won medals in this Olympics include judokas Hidayat Heydarov and Zelym Kotsoiev. Boxer Alfonso Dominguez has clinched at least a silver medal, advancing to the finals, which will take place at 00:34 (GMT +4) on August 9–10.

To note, the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics will conclude on August 11.
