WHO confirms 8 cases of H5N1 bird flu virus infections in Azerbaijan

The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed 8 cases of H5N1 bird flu virus infections in Azerbaijan, 5 of them lethal, the WHO statement told Trend.

According to the Healthcare ministry` s press-service head, Samaya Mammedova, the ministry did not yet receive any official information on laboratory tests from WHO.

The ministry send test samples from 43 persons with the suspected bird flu to the London lab in March in order to confirm the diagnosis.

Among these 43 samples there are 2 taken from patients who have already signed out of hospitals. One of them had preliminary diagnosed H5N1 virus and the other did not appear to have the virus at the time of testing.
