Russia plans to build NPP in Uzbekistan

Russia offered Uzbekistan to build a nuclear power plant with two new generation power units, Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Alexei Likhachev told Uzbek media on Dec.29.

"We offer to build here, in Uzbekistan, a station of two modern generation units" 3+ "VVER -1200 (Water-Water Energetic Reactor) during the period that the Uzbek side considers acceptable," Likhachev said.

He further stressed that Russia has solid experience in the construction of such facilities.

"In Bangladesh, Hungary, Egypt, Finland, we will build exactly such facilities, that is, it is not just an advanced post-Fukushima model of technology, it is quite a reference industrial competence that we are practically starting to replicate," he emphasized.

The governments of Uzbekistan and Russia have signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes.The agreement creates a legal basis for bilateral cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan regarding the peaceful use of atomic energy.

Promising directions include: creation of a national infrastructure and training of personnel for the nuclear energy of Uzbekistan, construction of nuclear power plants and research reactors in the country, as well as provision of support throughout the life cycle.
