Kazakhstan intends to increase its grain exports up to 6.5 million - 7 million tons in 2010, Director of the department for foreign economic activity of JSC "Food Contract Corporation" Daulet Uvashev said.

"In the current marketing year, which began on July 1, 2008 and will end on June 30, 2009, exports of grain and flour in grain equivalent will amount to 5.5 million tons," Uvashev said.

In future marketing year that begins on July 1, 2009 and will run until June 30, 2010, exports of grain and flour in grain equivalent, will grow up to 6.5 million - 7 million tons, he said.

The representative of the National Grain Company believes that it is possible to increase exports of the Kazakh grain through expanding sown area and higher humidity fields in 2009.

As previously reported, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, the total area of the spring planting amounted to 18.3 million hectares, which is 0.9 million hectares more than last year's level.

"At the present time, in May-June this year, the export of Kazakh grain to Azerbaijan by rail will be 27,000 tons, to Georgia - 3,000 tons," Uvashev said.
