Number of ATMs and POS-terminals are growing in Azerbaijan because of the government's program on development of the national payment system since 2005.
Since the use of POS-terminals helps streamline cash flow and prevents the possibility of tax evasion, many shopping facilities and services do not wish to install them. The Ministry of Taxes of Azerbaijan considers it important to resolve this problem by resorting to administrative methods, but it does not hold the registration of cash without the installation of POS-terminals.
According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) as of May 1, there were 1,572 to 1,364 ATMs in the corresponding period last year. On May 1, 882 ATMs were installed in Baku, and 690 - in cities and regions of the country.
There are a total of 8,440 units of POS terminals, which is by 1,912 unites more compared to last year. Out of 7,588 units are in Baku and 816 in regions.
