EBRD intends to invest more than $200mn in Azerbaijan's economy in 2009

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) intends to invest $200-220 million in Azerbaijan's economy during 2009, said the head of Bank's Baku office Francis Deley on June 25.

"Investment by the Bank will be used to finance 10 projects in various sectors of economy," said Deley.

He said that part of these investments would be directed to open credit lines for the country's banking sector - Unibank ($83 million), Azerdemiryolbank ($13 million), on which decision has already been made, and Bank Respublika (still under negotiation).

Deley said that during the year, the Bank intends to complete the agreement to join the capital of Milli Kart Processing Center, owned by 18 commercial banks in the country. He said that in this regard, currently the process of capitalization of the center is continuing.
