Adjara's government has begun resolving the problems in the fishing industry. Government head Archil Habadze and Agriculture Minister Zaur Putkaradze met with heads of the fishery corporations. The purpose of the meeting was to learn about the existing problems in the fishing industry and search for solutions.

The parties have also discussed the establishment and activity of fish processing plants and production of various types of fish. Participants of the meeting feel this stimulates the development of fisheries.

At present, about 70 fish farms have been created in Adjara. On average around 300 tons of fish are produced per year. Specialists believe this figure can be increased to 1000 tons at a maximum load.

Fish is mainly sold on the local market. On average, the price on one kilogramme of fish is eight to nine lari ($1=1.66 lari).
