Kazakhstan starts construction of Almaty-Khorgos road section

The construction of the 304.4-km long Almaty-Khorgos road section has started in Almaty region of Kazkahstan, the press service of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan reported.

The Almaty-Khorgos section is one of the last sections of the Western Europe-Western China international transit corridor going through the territory of Kazakhstan.

The report noted that the road will be built on the technical parameters of the I-b category with an estimated speed of 120 kilometers per hour.

The section is divided into eight lots, and the construction involved eight contractor companies. At present, active supply of concrete products, inert material is carried out in all construction sites, technology and personnel is continued to be involved. Preparation of the subgrade, erection of bridges and laying water pipes has started.

The project includes construction of 56 bridges, 13 road junctions, 22 elevated roads and laying of 460 conduit pipes. In addition, 688 units of road machinery and 1,362 people are involved in the installation and construction works.

The total length of the Kazakh section of the Western Europe-Western China international transit corridor is 2,787 km. 215 km of the road were commissioned in 2011, 700 km were commissioned in 2012 and 812 km in 2013.

Some 215 km of road was commissioned in 2011, in 2012 traffic was opened on the 700 kilometers, and 812 km of road was commissioned by the end of 2013.

In 2014, the Kazakh Government plans to complete construction and start commissioning of 157 km of the road in the four provinces of Kazakhstan, except Aktobe region where today the work on the reconstruction of the transport corridor has been finished completely.

Construction work will be carried out from Almaty to the Chinese border by the end of 2014, as well as from the border of Jambyl province to the border with Uzbekistan.
Completion of the transport corridor is planned in 2015.
