Iran's North Khorasan exports goods worth over $85M

During the 10 months of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), products worth more than $85 million were exported from Iran’s north-eastern North Khorasan Province, Mohammad Samadi, Chairman of North Khorasan Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, told IRNA, Trend reports.

According to Samadi, only 53 percent of the export program forecasted for this year has been fulfilled.

He added that the volume of imported goods was more than 321,000 tons in terms of weight.

"This year, export of goods declined by 32.8 percent in terms of weight and 23 percent in terms of value, compared with the same period last year," he said.

The chairman said that India had a major share in the exports of North Khorasan Province, with a 28.5-percent share – followed by Afghanistan with a 21.4 percent share, Myanmar with a 16 percent share, Iraq with a 8.2 percent share, and Turkmenistan with a 4.1 percent share.

"At present, businessmen of this province are traveling to 24 countries, including Italy, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Portugal and South Africa," he said.

Samadi added that the main products exported by the province are petrochemical products, steel products, rubber products, cement, food products, agricultural products, including potatoes and onions, bird feed, electrodes and construction materials.

The chairman noted that the share of the customs in the provincial exports was $33.5 million in terms of value and 104,000 tons in terms of weight.

According to Samadi, this is a 47 percent decrease in terms of value and a 50.4 percent decrease in terms of weight compared to the same period last year.

Samadi added that more than 3,000 tons of products worth more than $15 million have been imported to the province within 10 months. This shows a 59.3 percent increase in value and a 6.5 percent increase in weight compared to the same period last year.

Samadi added that rice, artificial flowers and fruits, ferrochrome, nickel, mechanical equipment for special works and other products are imported from China, Pakistan, Turkey, Canada and Russia.

North Khorasan Province has about 400 production and industrial enterprises. 11,000 people have been provided with jobs by businesses operating at 13 trillion rials (app. $309 million).
