BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 9. Azerbaijan received 81,384 South Asian tourists from January through April 2024, up 103 percent higher than the figure for the same period in 2023 (40,138), Trend reports.
According to the State Agency for Tourism of Azerbaijan, the number of arrivals from India amounted to 60,979 (year-on-year growth of 135 percent), Pakistan - 17,133 (year-on-year increase of 42 percent), Sri Lanka - 1,452 (year-on-year rise of 109 percent), Bangladesh - 1,061 (year-on-year gain by 124 percent), Nepal - 682 (year-on-year reduction by 16 percent), Afghanistan - 40 (year-on-year decrease by 49 percent), and the Maldives - 37 (year-on-year increase by 54 percent).
Meanwhile, 726,284 foreigners visited Azerbaijan from January through April this year, which is 39 percent more than in 2023 (523,305).
Moreover, a total of 2,086,548 foreign nationals visited Azerbaijan in 2023, which is more than 30.2 percent higher than in 2022 (1,602,600), and 181,033 foreigners from South Asian countries, which is 53.04 percent higher than in 2022 (118,288).
To note, a total of 570,162 foreigners visited Azerbaijan from South Asian countries over the five years (from India - 314,741, Pakistan - 222,987, Sri Lanka - 10,557, Nepal - 9,392, Bangladesh - 8,032, Afghanistan - 4,136, Maldives - 317).
