TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 9. All types of farms in Uzbekistan produced 75,300 tons of vegetables from January through March 2024, Trend reports.
According to the data from Uzbekistan's Statistics Agency, this figure represents a 4.7 percent growth compared to the same period last year (71,900 tons in January–March 2023).
From January through March 2024, the country's farms produced 7,000 tons of vegetables, dehkan (large private farms that belong to legal entities), subsidiary farms (47,100 tons), and agricultural organizations (21,200 tons).
During this period, a significant share of vegetable production falls on the Surkhandarya region (30.4 percent), among Uzbekistan's regions. Tashkent region (17.5 percent) ranks second, followed by Fergana region (10.6 percent). Karakalpakstan (0.4 percent) and the Jizzakh region (1.3 percent) had the lowest share.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan exported 375,300 tons of fruit and vegetables worth $219.8 million from January through March 2024. This figure has increased by 72.4 percent (157,700 tons) compared to the same period last year (217,600 tons in January–March 2023).
Pakistan accounted for the largest volume of horticultural product exports from Uzbekistan, with a total volume of 79,100 tons worth $57.6 million. From January through March 2024, Russia ranked second with 85,500 tons of exports worth $55.1 million, followed by Kazakhstan with 86,100 tons of horticultural products exported worth $23 million.
The exports accounted for 3.4 percent of the total volume.
