TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 9. The European Union (EU) will provide 600,000 euros to Uzbekistan, which will be implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the French Development Agency (AFD) to support green development in the country, Trend reports.

UNDP reports that a financing agreement between Vincent Caupin, the Head of the Central Asia Office of AFD, Charlotte Adriaen, the EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan, and Anas Fayyad Qarman, the UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan, will provide the funding.

The agreement will open new opportunities for cooperation between the three parties to help Uzbekistan achieve its goals and objectives for green development and the transition to a green economy.

At the same time, the new project aims to help Uzbekistan develop a comprehensive approach to identifying, assessing, and integrating potential sources of financing to achieve the country's green priorities and goals, fully implement green budgeting methodology, use public finances more efficiently, and pilot and introduce new innovative financial instruments.

Meanwhile, UNDP has launched a joint project with the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan on the development of green transportation. Grants of $3.57 million from the Global Environment Facility and $300,000 from UNDP fund the project.

The Ministry of Transport will implement the project between 2022 and 2027. Uzbekistan will finance a portion of the project totaling $25.57 million.
