By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgian tangerines will be exported to Singapore, Slovenia and Qatar this year, Trend reports referring to Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

As reported, tangerines harvest season picks up in west Georgia.

Exports of tangerines amounted to 3,909 tons from the mid-October to November 29, 2019, said Head of the Georgia's Adjara region government Tornike Rijvadze.

The leading destination countries for exports are Russia (905.7 tons), Ukraine (221.9 tons), Latvia (40.6 tons) and Azerbaijan (22 tons).

Georgian Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Levan Davitashvili is optimistic about the sale of Adjara citrus fruits.

"In recent years, the ministry, together with the government of Adjara, has carried out important events for promotion of Georgian citrus to foreign markets. This year, 12 more countries have been added to the list of traditional importers of the product. Given that there is a demand for Georgian tangerines, higher prices are set this year," said the minister.

Purchase prices for tangerines this year range from 60 tetri (20 cents) to 1.5 lari (50 cents).
