Kazakhstan’s farmers have finished sowing of spring grain and leguminous crops on territory of 3 million ha, which is 20 percent of total sowing area allocated for these crops, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture.
Oilseeds sowing was already carried out on a million ha, which is nearly 32 percent of the total oilseeds sowing planned. Vegetables, melons and potatoes were sown on 309,000 ha, which is 65.5 percent of the plan.
Seeding of perennial grasses (228,500 hectares or 81.2 percent), cotton (101,700 hectares or 92.5 percent) and sugar beets (20,400 hectares or 92.7 percent) is nearing the end.
The ministry said that total 2020 spring sowing of crops is planned on 18.6 million hectares, which is nearly 300,000 hectares more than last year. To date, farmers have carried out sowing on over 4.5 million ha, which is 25 percent of the total sowing area.
The overall carried out sowing work in 2019 amounted to 13 percent as of May 15,2019 or 2.2 million ha.
As reported earlier this month, sowing area of highly profitable crops such as oilseeds, vegetables and fodder crops has been increased by 238,000 ha this year in Kazakhstan.
The overall sowing area of agriculture crops was increased to be 22.5 million ha in Kazakhstan in 2020.
The regional budgets allocated 11.3 billion tenge (425.9 million) to subsidize seed production development this year, whereas 2.5 billion tenge ($5.7 million) were allocated from the republican budget to purchase nearly 29,400 tons of seeds and 838,700 elite seedlings.
