Azerbaijani farmers were paid 18.6 million manat ($10.9 million) for spring sowing as of July 6, which is 230,000 manat ($135,200) more than in the past month, the Agrarian Credit and Development Agency under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture told Trend on July 8.

According to the agency, in June 2020, 17,449 farmers received subsidies for the spring sowings.

"The farmers announced about spring sowing on 121,012 land plots, 72,438 of which were approved," the agency said.

It was also noted that to date, information about sowing on more than 1.2 million hectares of land was registered in the e-agriculture information system (EKTIS) of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Agriculture. So far, more than 44,000 farmers have announced about spring sowing via EKTIS, of whom 34,800 were confirmed.

On April 14, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the allocation of funds to improve the process of providing agricultural producers with microloans in terms of the coronavirus pandemic and in the further period.

In accordance with the decree, 30 million manat ($17.6 million) envisaged in the state budget for 2020 are allocated from the Azerbaijani Presidential Reserve Fund to the Agrarian Credit and Development Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture for the issuance of non-guarantee loans in the agricultural sector to meet the needs of agricultural producers for funds during the coronavirus pandemic and in the post-pandemic period.
