BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 10

Turkmenstandartlary Major State Service has the status of a correspondent member with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) which means that it adheres to the development of ISO standards and strategy by attending ISO technical and policy meetings as observer, the representative of ISO told Trend.

Major State Inspection of Turkmenistan (MSIT) was established on January, 7 1993, in order to control the quality of manufactured products.

"The organization was renamed the Major State Inspection Turkmenistandartlary on October, 5 1999. Since 8 October 2000, it has been the Major State Service "Turkmenstandartlary",” said ISO.

Earlier, Turkmenistan adopted an "Order of certification of products imported to Turkmenistan from foreign countries".

In line with the document, Turkmenstandartlary major state service carries out certification in the country on almost all products and goods produced in large and small, public and private enterprises.

Since becoming the corresponding member of ISO, Turkmenstandartlary has actively participated in ISO activities as well as in the work of Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification and Interregional Association for Standardization of member states of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

Turkmenistan uses ISO-9000 globally recognized international standards. Enterprises of significant export-oriented industries such as textiles, chemicals and oil refining have already received certificates confirming their compliance with quality standards.

Turkmenstandartlary has been entrusted with functions of an independent expert group for assessment of the quality of agricultural products, first of all, grain and cotton.
