Iran unveils volume of sprat caught in Caspian

As many as 4,400 tons of sprat have been caught in the Caspian Sea in the Gilan Province (northern Iran) since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to date on December 21, Deputy Director of Gilan Fishing Department Akbar Ildirim said, Trend reports citing the department’s information portal.

According to Ildirim, 4,170 tons of caught sprat were sent to factories for the production of animal feed.

He added that 237 tons of sprat were put up for sale in the market for consumption.

The deputy director emphasized that the value of the sprat caught in the province amounted to about 178 billion rials (about $4.24 million). The price of 1 kg of sprat was 55,000 rials (about $1.3) for consumption and 44,000 rials (about $1.04) for factories.

Ildirim noted that the sprat is caught by 30 hunting boats and 214 hunters in Gilan Province.
