Fundamental Changes Necessary in Chemistry Sphere in Azerbaijan: Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Khalilova / Azerbaijani Ministry of Industry and Energy proposed to make significant changes in the biggest state chemical producing company of Azerikimya.

"Global changes is relevant to make in technology sphere to increase production level, quality and differ chemical products," Natik Aliyev, the Industry and Energy Minister, said.

"Initially we should promote serious basis for future and develop the program for chemical production," the Minister said

The current chemistry industry of Azerbaijan became out of date. Azerikimya was focused on raw basis without manufacturing the final products, as well as without quality used in world. "We need take up the chemical industry seriously and develop a special program in the sphere. We should also think off meaning of development of chemical industry in Azerbaijan. It is one of the relevant issues for Azerbaijan," Aliyev said. At the beginning of the year, the activity of Azerkimiya's enterprises was ceased and financial support was provided according to the Governmental decision to re-establish the Company's work. Due to the deterioration of the equipment, the Company covers only 20-25% of its design capacity and it does not provide an opportunity to the local products to compete with the imported products. In addition, there are not laboratories to inspect the quality of the products according to international standards. Currently more than 100 chemical enterprises function in the Country, with 70-80% belonging to the Government. Due to such problems, the decrease in the growth rate of the chemical industry as a result of 2006 totaled 3.4%, 2005 - 3.7%, 2004 - 4.7%, 2003 - 3.9%, 2000 - 3.4%, 1995 - 3%. The chemical production in January to September decreased by 47.1.
