TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 10. Chinese Universal Energy will build two wind power plants in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand and Jizzakh regions, Trend reports.

This is reflected in the decree signed by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the decree, Universal Energy will build two wind farms with a capacity of 250 MW each. Each project will attract a total investment of $250 million.

Peak Wind Alpha and Peak Wind Beta, two of Universal Energy's subsidiaries, will serve as project contractors. They have provided a total of $18 million in foreign bank guarantees as collateral for the project.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan entered into an agreement with Saudi ACWA Power to construct a 5,000 MW wind power plant in Karakalpakstan.

The total cost of the project is $6.2 billion.

As a result of commissioning this plant, Uzbekistan will generate 17.5 billion kWh of electricity per year, save 5.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserves, and prevent the emission of 7.4 million tons of harmful gases into the atmosphere.
