Prospects of implementing a large-scale project of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline is currently under discussion, Pakistani Foreign Minister Navabzad Malik Amad Khan said, National television channel Altin Asir reported on Aug. 4.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov received the Pakistani minister.
During the visit Ashgabat hosted a meeting of a joint intergovernmental commission. The key milestone in the cooperation of the two countries is the large-scale gas pipeline project.
"The construction of the Trans-Afghan gas pipeline will serve as a guarantee for further economic growth of the region, its social welfare and particularly, act as a super factor of peace and security in the Central Asia, Turkmen Dovlet Khaberleri state news service reported.
The sides stated that Turkmenistan and Pakistan possesses huge potential and opportunities to intensify further cooperation in the interest of two nations, as well as all countries of the regions. Prospective directions of cooperation are energy, transport, agriculture, health and others.
The two sides reiterated that closer positions on a range of international and regional policy issues strengthen the relations.
The Pakistani minister conveyed Berdimuhamedov greetings from the President and prime minister of Pakistan, who voiced their interests in continuing constructive dialogue with Turkmenistan, demonstrating impressive successes in all spheres of life, including politics, economy, culture and social development.
In March 2009Berdimuhammadov met with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari in Tehran in the 10th jubilee summit of the heads of state and governments of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member-states.
