Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 12 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

SOCAR will begin transporting chemical products through its own Kulevi oil terminal in Georgia in late October - early November, a SOCAR source told Trend on Friday.

The slight delay is connected with the overhaul of the EP-300 complex ("Ethylene-Polyethylene" plant), the source said. The manufactured propylene products will be exported through the Kulevi terminal.

"The plant was repaired," the source said. "But the process of transporting the chemical products will be launched in the near future till late October or early November."

The monthly volume of chemical product transportation via Kulevi terminal is expected to hit 4,500 tons.

Chemical product transportation through SOCAR's Kulevi oil terminal will be possible thanks to a new propylene transportation complex at the oil terminal in Kulevi. The draft of the new complex was prepared by the Neftgazelmitedgigatlayihe Institute.

The complex includes compressors, transformers, a nitric station and a pier to supply polypropylene. The production at the terminal will be loaded directly from railway tankers into gas carriers.

Chemical products produced by SOCAR's Azerkimya production association will be transported via the terminal.

Kulevi terminal was put into operation in summer 2008. Its total capacity is 10 million tons of oil per year, including 3 million tons of oil, 3 million tons of diesel fuel, and 4 million tons of fuel oil.

The terminal can accommodate up to 168 tank cars. The tank farm's total volume is 320,000 cubic meters with the possibility of increasing to 380,000 cubic meters.
