"2008 was very successful for Teliasonera. The profits of the organization rose by 20 percent, and we developed quite well," President of the Eurasian business office Teliasonera Tero Kivisaari said at a press conference in Barcelona, Spain on Feb. 16.

"I am very satisfied with the results of operations. We are a long-term investor in the country where we operate and invest a large amount of money," Kivisaari said.

The number of subscribers in the companies in which we do not own share holding (Turkcell and Megafon) hits 110 million, but those we have is 18.4 million. Companies' turnover exceeded two billion dollar. The profit of companies controlled by us amounted to one billion dollar, Kivisaari added.

Our profit will reach two million dollar is we will add there the operation of Turkcell and Megafon. Operations in Eurasia at about 50 per cent of the total turnover of Teliasonera.

The company's priority for 2010 is to increase and open new outputs in the region.

"I believe that good communication and customer service are relevant factors to reach success, so we want to have the best network in the countries where we operate. I believe that the future of wireless is 3G," Kivisaari said.

"2009 and 2010 will be difficult. This year will be difficult not only for us but for all. The main problem is that it is very difficult to predict the future. Of course, the national currency fluctuations will impact on our business very seriously, like on the Kazakh tenge. I am not very worried, because we are a strong company with a strong financial base and more resources. In any case we have long-term investors," Kivisaari added.

The Azerbaijani mobile operator Azercell Telecom is technically ready to implement a third-generation communication services 3G, Azercell Director General Ali Agan said at the press-conference.

"We are ready to introduce 3G. We demonstrated this to President Ilham Aliyev at the Baku Tel exhibition in November last year," Agan said.

The Azercell Telecom, which has more than 3.5 million subscribers, expressed interest in obtaining a license for introduction of 3G services in Azerbaijan a few years ago and appealed to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
