The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) has issued permissions for provision of the financial services to 426 offices and 41 postal branches of the Azerbaijani national postal operator LLC Azerpoct, Communications and IT Ministry reported.

Today, Azerpoct's 37 post offices are connected to the central module of the automated corporate information system. About 30 of them already provide the financial services.

Azerpoct has all legal rights for the provision of financial services to the public. Today, the operator is allowed to provide five of the seven existing financial services. These include opening and managing accounts, money transfers, issuance of debit card transactions for buying and selling currencies on the order book and collection of cash and other valuable means. The provision of two more additional services - taking deposits and issue of credit cards will be revised in 2011.

The operator provides the banking services under the Financial Services Development Project. The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs is likely to provide technical assistance to Azerpoct (for Financial Services Development Project). The SECO and World Bank (WB) now revise the allocation of another grant.

Minister's Postal Department Head Novruz Mammadov earlier told Trend that the Financial Services Development Project is expected to be officially presented on Dec.2. Universal Postal Union (UPU) Director General Edouard Dayan is also expected to attend the event.
