Apple Unloads New iPod Nano, iPod Classic, iPod Touch

( Mobile ) - On Tuesday, we heard that Apple would be unveiling the new iPod nano. We heard that Wednesday would be the day where Apple fanboys from around the world could rejoice over the latest generation of pocket sized music featuring a click wheel. And they delivered, but Steve Jobs brought more than just a new iPod nano to the table yesterday; he revealed a whole new family of iPods.

Let's start with the obvious one. The new iPod nano looks exactly like the earlier leaked photos that we had seen. Its somewhat squished stature is a little off-putting at first, but it looks like the screen is about the same size as the outgoing model. What's strange is that they've married the first two gens in that the front has a pastel metallic color whereas the back is fingerprint-loving chrome. They say that the new UI is smooth and the video (yes, video) is nice, but the scroll wheel feels small.

For a slightly more retro approach, there is the iPod Classic, an all-metal unit (except for the clickwheel) that no one was expecting. The touchwheel feels "less sensitive", but you get the same new UI as the new nano. I guess this is supposed to replace the 5.5G iPod, because there will be 80GB and 160GB versions available for sale.

Last, but certainly not least, is the iPod Touch. It looks familiar, right? That's because the iPod Touch is basically the iPhone minus the phone. There are a few minor differences like having a black section for WiFi in the top right instead of a black bottom back, and having a black aluminum bezel instead of a steel one. It's supposed to be very thin and the WiFi connection is very expedient. Download was rated at 150k a second.
