BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 19. New facilities worth 18 trillion rials (about $428 million) will be put into use at Iranian airports, over the next 9 months, Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and CEO of Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company (IAC), Hamid Reza Seyyedi said at a press conference in Tehran on December 19, 2022, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The CEO noted that among them, are 10 large airport facilities are planned to be put into use in the country on the anniversary of the Iranian Revolution (occurred in 1979, being marked Feb. 1 through Feb. 11, 2023). In this regard, 4.5 trillion rials (about $107 million) was spent.

Answering the question of reporters regarding the construction of a new airport, he said that according to the decision of the Iranian government, no new airport can be built in Iran except for the Chabahar airport, because it is no longer profitable to build a new airport in the country.

Seyyedi also pointed out that a new terminal of 100,000 square meters is planned to be built at Tehran's Mehrabad Airport. The foundation of the mentioned terminal is expected to be laid between February 1 through February 11, 2023.
