Iran unveils details of cargo transit through Bashmaq customs

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 13. Some 2.38 million tons of cargo worth $4.72 billion were transited through Bashmaq customs of Iran’s Kurdistan Province in the west of the country, over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Supervisor of Kurdistan Province Customs Office, Khalil Heydari told IRNA, Trend reports.

Heydari noted that 1.23 million tons of cargo were transited to Iraq and 1.08 million tons to other countries through Bashmaq customs in the last year.

Also, approximately 67,000 tons of cargo were transited to other provinces of Iran within the mentioned period, he added.

The customs official said that it is planned to take a number of steps in order to increase cargo transit through Iran’s Kurdistan Province's customs.

There are 3 customs offices opering in Kurdistan Province of Iran. The Bashmaq customs is the only customs for cargo transit in the province.

Overall, more than 12 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran within the first 11 months of the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022, through February 19, 2023), which is an increase of 5.22 percent compared to the same period in the preceding Iranian year.
