Now there are only two intrigues in political system of Kazakhstan left as of January 2012 - whether Aslan Musin and Karim Masimov retain their jobs after the election, and the main beneficiary of the recent reshuffle has become Umirzak Shukeyev, editor in chief of IAA Bulletin of the Caucasus, Alex Vlasov told Trend.

"Many experts believe that he is one of the main contenders for prime minister, and Karim Massimov will be appointed after the January elections as a head of the National Welfare Fund. However, the hasty resignation of Timur Kulibayev prompted the president to "beat the situation" and send one of the most influential politicians of Kazakhstan to the management of state holdings," Vlasov said.

Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov dismissed the head of the National Welfare Fund Samruk Kazyna, Timur Kulibayev, managing oil and gas companies. Umirzak Shukeyev headed the National Welfare Fund Samruk Kazyna.

Shukeyev worked as a first deputy prime minister of Kazakhstan from August 2007 to the present.

Vlasov noted that Shukeev was one of the few top managers, who not only could aside from the debriefing of events around the west country, but also could use his position as the head of the Commission of Inquiry into Zhanaozen as his own hardware resources.

Unrest occurred in the city Zhanaozen on Dec 16 where 16 people died and dozens were injured.

Buildings in the city were burned, individual property and legal entities were destroyed , cars were burned as well. The next day Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev declared a state of emergency.

Unrest preceded by many months' strike of employees of oil companies who are dissatisfied with the level of their wages. The strike was declared illegal by the Court, its members were dismissed.

"Shukkev is authoritative and tough politician. In fact, it is an internal leader for the entire group of politicians, people from the south of Kazakhstan. He is loyal to Nursultan Nazarbayev, and enjoys his absolute trust," Vlasov said.
